Sál Sauna - Firstly pronunciation, well it’s simply like the ‘a’ in apple.
The west side of Sleat has lots of evidence of Viking heritage, whether that is in place names, legends or artefacts that have been recovered. We also have a thriving Gàidhlig heritage in our language and traditions.
It only felt right to combine these two to create a brand name that reflected our combined history.
Salt and soul are two words that embody the elements of the sauna ritual that are special to me. Sál is an old norse word for soul, and Sàl is the Gàidhlig word for saltwater.
If you look closely you will see that our logo reflects both … ensuring I’ll never spell it wrong ;)

Swimwear and a towel to sit on, also recommend that you bring flipflops/sliders, plenty to drink and an additional towel to dry off if swimming.
We suggest that you arrive around 10 mins before your session, allowing you time to get ready and meet your host.
There are a host of reported benefits from improved cardiovascular health, to reduced cortisol levels. When combined with a cold dip it aids pain/inflammation relief.
No you don’t, there is a nearby river if you prefer to splash in some fresh water or you can simply splash some cold water from our handy buckets at the sauna door.
If you plan to swim, please note that this is done at your own risk. To enjoy the water at its best, we recommend booking your session around high tide, check the tide times here.
We would recommend that no one stays in the heat longer than they feel comfortable and up to around 15 mins at a time.
There are no public conveniences in Ord, so please bear this in mind when booking. Ord does have a host of wildlife and we would always recommend including a little time to allow for some greenbathing.
